The Actor gives insights into how she “stays in the moment” and gives honest reactions to student’s approaches to communication and coaching her. In this role play “Esther” is very anxious, and Senior students demonstrate how they help Esther manage her anxiety.
Teacher Dr. Stephanie Sideras and senior students plan their post-hospitalization visit with Esther who has severe COPD. They review chart and history, and consider what the priorities are in this post-hospitalization visit. The discussion helps students focus on priorities, and engage their clinical imaginations about Esther’s plight. This Pre-Briefing illustrates focusing on what is most relevant for this visit (developing a sense of salience), and on enriching the student’s clinical imagination in preparation for the simulated home visit.
